With the decision by the Indian Government about Kashmir in August 2019, the Ladakh region will become a separate Union Territory. Some hope that this will foster development in the area, including by increasing tourism. But will it be truly beneficial for the “land of high passes”, one of the remaining great unspoiled mountain regions of the world?
