In the middle of Italy, the Bolsena lake is a little known gem between Rome, Tuscany and Umbria. The small communities on the lake shores, who have always relied mainly on farming and fisheries, struggle to find a balance between their traditional lifestyle and modernity, since fish stock is declining and working the land is not profitable, nor popular like it used to be. In the village of Marta, however, its inhabitants still hold onto their faith in “Madonna del Monte” (Madonna on the Hill), and every 15th of May since centuries ago, they climb up the village hill to bring their offers and chants to their beloved Holy Mother, asking for a better future.
